Welcome to my blog!

Posted June 1st, 2011 by photou with Comments Off

Hi and welcome to PHOTOU photography.

I have been a wedding photographer for years now, as an extension of that I now offer my services as a portrait photographer.  A pleasure and privilege being a part of each and every wedding it is now my pleasure to provide you portraiture whether that be personal, couple or family.

Do look at the website for all the information and sample photography it contains and feel free to contact me with your enquires or booking. It could well be in the comfort of my home based office / studio or you may like to have your photography at a favorite location. Incorporate a variety of locations so we can put together a beautiful photo album for you. We can arrange printing and framing for you if you like. Try your favorite on a canvas print or perhaps on acrylic for a slick look.

A beautiful February Wedding. A lovely venue at Bridgewater Estate, Kaukapakapa, a charming couple and the cutest pooch who carried the rings for them.

Windy Wellington

A warm but typically windy day in Wellington was the venue for a perfect January wedding. Bridget and Brian the glowing Bride and Groom. Bridget is one of my wife’s best friends so it was a fun day and a pleasure capturing it for them. Thank you Wellington and Erica for hosting us and best wishes for the future guys.

Flower power

Every now and then I aim to showcase a venue or supplier I feel excels in their field of expertise. More often than not they may well be associated with the wedding industry but not necessarily the case. This post I want to draw your attention to a particular Auckland florist. I believe Wildpoppies situated in Ponsonby not only has an excellent range of flowers and customer service but has possibly the best website in it’s field also. Clear, concise, easy to navigate and order and laden with options. While you can’t smell the flowers online (yet) you can certainly view everything and as elegant and extensive as their selection is you couldn’t get a better site or florist to work for you than Wildpoppies.

And while they will naturally tend to your requests for your big wedding day flower arrangements they are equally happy to provide for any occasion or corporate requirements. The gift basket range also extensive and impressive plus they have a same day delivery service. Don’t just take my word for it, next time you are in need of a florist or perhaps looking for gift inspiration do have a look. In fact don’t wait till you need them, have a look at their website now if you want to be impressed. Just don’t blame me if you are also tempted to buy while visiting, when’s the last time you bought your partner, home or office flowers?

For the record!

Posted June 28th, 2011 by photou with Comments Off

While most of my photography has been weddings and the personal portraiture more towards glamour that is not the full extent of course. A recent photo session with this lovely gentleman and his proud refurbished medals shows there is no age barrier or prerequisites. He wanted an updated photo for “the record” and for his family history. Proudly displayed in his own home and that of his children’s. A painless exercise in my home office/studio then prepared and framed for his pick up within two days.

If you know someone who may well benefit from their own photos being professionally taken for the record, future generations or simply a lasting reminder of that period in time pass on my information and I’ll look after them.

Wine Chambers

It is with great pleasure I introduce Wine Chambers Restaurant as an idyllic venue for an intimate inner city wedding venue. Having dined there myself on several occasions it fast became a favourite so when I heard it was also catering to weddings I knew I would have no trouble recommending it. Martina Lutz, the owner, has impeccable taste and flair reflected in the decor, menu and overall service. Exquisite food and wine to match they can cater up to eighty guests seated in the main restaurant area while still providing two separate rooms for relaxing in or utilising for desserts or a gift room.

Set in a stunning historic building in Shortland Street, Auckland City with an abundance of nearby accommodation also available. As if the decor, ambience, service and the dining experience wasn’t enough, and I do suggest you dine there if you haven’t already,Martina and Wine Chambers can also offer their very own cocktail lounge hosted beneath the dining room. A little known treasure where you can dance the night away after being spoilt upstairs or perhaps you might incorporate it in your booking for your pre dinner drinks or cocktails.

Martina and the staff are very accommodating so do check out their website for further details, go for the dining experience now and then put them on the top of your list for consideration for your big day in the big city.

Cassels Wedding Venue

Posted June 6th, 2011 by photou with Comments Off

I’d like to take that this opportunity to thank Sue and John from Cassels for their hospitality while attending  many a wedding there.

A beautiful venue set in the Waitakere Ranges just a short drive from Auckland City. The immaculate grounds with a gorgeous gazebo a serene backdrop for a dream wedding and the attention to detail evident to see inside as well. Having your ceremony and reception in the one location is a bonus in itself but also having the ability to capture a variety of photos onsite means not having to leave at all, making great use of your time in a more relaxed manner. Of course there is the option to broaden your photography with the nearby Swanson railway station or Bethels beach just a short drive away.

If you haven’t as yet decided on your Wedding venue do visit their website www.cassels.co.nz or survey the premises yourself. 1012 Scenic Drive, Waitakere Ranges, Swanson

Sue Humphrey very accommodating.  info@cassels.co.nz  ph 09 832 4178

Boudoir Bride2B

Posted June 6th, 2011 by photou with Comments Off

There is a cross over sometimes in the genre, nature and/or style of photography. I have made that distinction in my boudoir Bride2B. This boudoir Bride2B and photo session while it is about the bride isn’t about the wedding day, while it is a lingerie photo session it it isn’t your normal glamour shoot.

The idea is once I have a bride and groom booked for their pending wedding day and photography with me I have the bride secretly organise a boudoir Bride2B photo session just prior to the big day. Most everyone knows, and you are welcome to argue with me or the point, that the big day is mainly about the bride. Yes you are both King and Queen for the day but with the emphasis, and rightly so, on the brides dress, shoes, jewelry, nails, hair, makeup, bouquet and lingerie isn’t it only fair the groom get a little something else other than his suit and possibly new shoes to complement the day.

Why not as you have gone to so much trouble and expense with your wedding day lingerie have a professional personal portrait session in it!

A week or two before your wedding date come to my home based studio with your lingerie (and other clothing) and have a photo session with me. Have the processed photo files from that session fashioned into a DVD slideshow complete with soundtracks, or a few prints made from the files. Have this packaged and presented to the groom the day before the wedding to be opened when you are not there, “see you at the alter”!

You will already have purchased your lingerie, you will be looking at your best because of your build up to the wedding day, you can use your makeup artist / beautician’s often complimentary trial makeup session and it will serve as a lasting reminder of your last days as a single woman, not too mention rousing your fiancee’s enthusiasm to another level. Interested, mention the Boudoir Bride2B in your contact with me via email. As you have already made a booking with me for your wedding day I offer a discounted price for your photo session of $250.00, this will include your photo files on disc and a DVD.
